Barasingha, also known as Swamp deer, are indigenous to the Indian subcontinent and were brought to the Patio in the 1970s in order to increase the numbers of a vulnerable species. These reddish-brown, large-bodied deer weigh well upwards of 300 pounds at maturity, and the males display seasonal antlers with long brow tines and clusters of points at the end. They are tough animals that are only available at a select few ranches and can make for a challenging spot-and-stalk hunt. The barasingha not only provides a unique trophy, but also can fill your freezer with a single animal. The meat is comparable to lean beef and is a staple in the Patio Ranch family diet.
